“Doctor Who” Gets a Female Doctor

 In Industry, Trending

As BBC reported this weekend, Jodie Whitaker is the new Doctor on “Doctor Who.”

The show announced Whitaker in a trailer dropped at the end of the Wimbledon men’s single final. She takes the role over from Peter Capaldi, who has played The Doctor since 2013.

Whitaker is the first woman to play the character for the series, which has aired off and on since 1964. The move has been met with mostly positive responses but has met some back lash.

Whitaker comes from her slot on another popular BBC drama, “Broadchurch.” There, she worked with new “Doctor Who” showrunner Chris Chibnall. Chibnall responded to backlash a couple days after the announcement.
